neural.stream

neural stream is an audiovisual installation consisting of four elevated screens that form a wave-like structure. These screens display visuals that respond to a soundscape and digitally simulate water. Both the visual design and the music reference and abstract elements such as water, server rooms, AI-generated material, and technology.

The starting point and inspiration for this artwork was a quote by Simone de Beauvoir, written in 1968:

“Soon technology will seem to us like nature itself, and we will live in a completely inhuman world.”

Driven by an eerie feeling about the development of technologies such as artificial intelligence, the artist began researching the environmental consequences of such technologies—and soon discovered that A.I. consumes large amounts of water. As a swimmer and frequent user of A.I. tools, the artist was saddened by this revelation. This led to the creation of visuals that reflect this impact, using TouchDesigner, a visual programming software commonly used for interactive and real-time art.

The reused screens, purchased from a vintage shop in Munich, were integrated into a wave-like sculpture using aluminum tubes, monitor stands, and other components to bring the artwork to life.

development

The particle system and main composition was designed and orchestrated using TouchDesigner. Part of the creative exploration happened in Processing and some AI-generated imagery was used, made in Haiper.

presentation

neural.stream was presented at HYPERMEDIA (acatech, Munich) and DigitalAnalog Festival 2025.
